Financial Literacy

‘Through our work here at Ysgol Frongoch, we provide children with a financial education which focusses on developing pupils into enterprising, creative contributors who are ready to play a full part in life and work. Ultimately, helping children to understand how financial choices impact not only their lives, but also the communities, people and environment around them.'

In Frongoch, the development of Financial Literacy looks like:

How to manage money

  • Being responsible with money

  • Adding and subtracting amounts

  • Finding change

  • Comparing prices

  • Making simple purchases

Becoming a critical consumer

  • Choosing books about financial literacy

  • Looking after school resources

  • Using numeracy skills independently

  • Spotting the difference between facts and opinions

  • Questioning things we read online

  • Reducing waste

  • Turning off lights

Managing risk

  • Identifying dangers in a lesson

  • Using potentially dangerous resources safely

  • Using playground resources responsibly

  • Arriving to school independently and safely

Understanding the important role of money

  • Taking part in charitable events/tasks

  • Respect expensive equipment

  • Make decisions based on money (borrowing and lending)

  • Handling money (school events)

Should children be seen authentically using these skills, they are rewarded with 'Tocynau Draig'/'Dragon Tokens' which they can use as a raffle ticket t potentially win prizes or as a currency at our school tuck shop!
